BACKGROUND

Reintegration of Returnee Migrant Workers (ReMi) (https://remi.org.np/) is a bilateral project of Ministry of Labor Employment and social security (https://moless.gov.np/) in cooperation with SDC and is in operation since July 2022. HELVETAS/ Nepal, is responsible to manage the project, has subcontracted DEPROSC-Nepal to provide technical assistance in Economic Reintegration.

As per the conditions agreed, DEPROSC-Nepal has developed Information Package and Referral Packages, which will be used by Employment Service Center/palika for returnees migrants and their families. Some part of these documents are in Nepali and some are in English. Now, DEPROSC-Nepal needs to translate these documents and prepare two sets – in English and in Nepali languages.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

ReMi project requires a consultant Translator who is able to translate the training modules from Nepali to English and English to Nepali language. As mentioned above, the translator will prepare two sets of the same documents in English and Nepali. Specific responsibilities of the Translator will be:

  • Get a briefing from DEPROSC-Nepal staff.
  • Read the content file in word document that are in Nepali and English languages.
  • Check the content flow and suggest if something is missing or looks odd.
  • The document has been prepared by different experts so their styles of writing can be different so make some effort to bring consistency in style of writing.
  • Translate the document as at the time of briefing.
  • Share draft translation and collect feedback from DEPROSC-Nepal staff.
  • Finalize the translation with Calibri 12 font for English and Preeti 16 for Nepali. Font size with tables and diagrams can be different.
  • Submit the final soft copy of translated document.  

The document is 89 pages long now.

The applicant will submit an application letter citing his/her prior experience and if possible reference or certification from similar work earlier, proposed rate per page, other conditions if any. DEPROSC will shortlist and inform only the shortlisted candidates for further selection, which will include a brief practical session.

At the completion of selection process, a contract will be signed between DEPROSC-Nepal and the Translator, citing timeline for order, advance, delivery and other conditions.
