Koshi Flood Recovery and Rehabilitation Programme
Following the Koshi Flood in 2008, Food for Work (FFW) and Cash for Work (CFW) programmes with joint support from WFP, UNDP/QIPSI and DDC Sunsari was implemented by by DEPROSC-Nepal from April to September 2009, aiming to re-establish the displaced population in their original locations and help them recover livelihood assets through construction, rehabilitation and short-term employment under the FFW and CFW schemes.

| Achievements | A total of 7,484 HHs benefited directly from the programme, with a further 38,446 people benefiting indirectly through the rehabilitation and reconstruction of livelihood assets. During the programme period, 100 public infrastructures were reconstructed and rehabilitated with the mobilization of 96 UCs. The programme delivered immediate food support to 7,484 HHs for an average of 3.5 months, through FFW and CFW modes. Victims received incentives in the form of food — 4 kg of rice and 0.5 kg of lentils, with support from WFP — and cash of NRs. 60, with support from UNDP/QIPSI/LDF, for 8-hour workdays, equivalent to the local unskilled wage rate of NRs. 185/day under district norms. A total of 1,542.032 MT of food and NRs. 18,070,100 in cash were distributed to beneficiaries. Visible community infrastructure outputs included 190 hand pumps, 18 community fish ponds, 1 irrigation canal, 73 rural roads, 5 school grounds, 2 check dams, and land filling at a mosque. |
