PRRO Food Assistance Programme

Given the critical food situation facing people in 6 VDCs of Humla and 11 VDCs of Jajarkot, PRRO was implemented to address food insecurity through FFW and FFT activities from August 2009 to July 2010 in Humla, and to September 2010 in Jajarkot under the financial and kind support from World Food Programme (WFP).

AchievementsA total of 62,259 beneficiaries from 11,079 households were covered through the construction and rehabilitation of 217 FFW schemes (including sub-schemes) and 31 FFT activities. Beneficiaries received 2,784.645 MT of food over 3 months.
 
A total of 194.63 hectares of land — 31.4 in Humla and 163.23 in Jajarkot — belonging to 2,452 HHs were irrigated.
 
Land was developed and apples were planted across 23.29 hectares — 18.95 in Jajarkot and 4.34 in Humla.
 
The Sirpachaur-to-Phulchauli mule trail in Ramidanda, Jajarkot district, cut a full day off the walk to the local food market.
 
Seasonal migration in Jajarkot dropped significantly.
 
Beneficiaries were spared from having to sell their valuable utensils and livestock.
