Pilot Program on Water Users’ Association Training
DEPROSC-Nepal implemented the Pilot Program on Water Users’ Association Training in 16 Selected Sub-projects under the Second Irrigation Sector Project (NGO Model). The project was officially launched on 1 April 2000 in accordance with the agreement signed on 17 March 2000.
DEPROSC-Nepal’s intervention covered selected sub-project sites in 16 districts, including eight districts in the Eastern Development Region and eight districts in the Central Development Region.
The project encompassed six Terai districts and ten hill districts, comprising five new sub-projects (four in the Terai and one in the hills) and eleven rehabilitated sub-projects (two in the Terai and nine in the hills).

| Achievements | The project conducted training programmes, facilitated Water Users’ Association (WUA) meetings and review/planning exercises, and organized linkage and networking workshops with line agencies. A total of 86 training programmes were organized of which 70 were conducted by DEPROSC-Nepal. The remaining 16 training courses were organized in collaboration with the District Agricultural Development Offices (DADOs). The training courses provided by the DADOs covered Integrated Pest Management (IPM)/plant protection, rice production, wheat production, and maize production. Similarly, the training programmes conducted by DEPROSC-Nepal included Annual Operational Plan (AOP) preparation, operation and maintenance, institutional development, bookkeeping, and vegetable farming. The training programmes reached a total of 1,365 participants, including 302 women. Another major activity of the project was canal maintenance, including canal cleaning, supervision, and repair.
