Homestead food and poultry production program (HFPP)

DEPROSC-Nepal, in collaboration with Helen Keller International, implemented the Homestead Food and Poultry Production Programme (HFPP) in three VDCs of Nuwakot District, namely Gerkhu, Bageshwori, and Khanigaon, from June 2022. HFPP is one of the successful models for addressing malnutrition among poor households in target communities.

AchievementsTwenty Village Model Nutrition and Poultry Farms (VMNPFs) were established, benefiting 823 households in the target area.
A total of eight poultry birds were distributed to each VMNPF owner and four birds to each participating household during the project period.
Poultry management training was provided twice to each VMNPF owner.
A total of six nutrition education sessions were conducted for 480 participants.
Sprayers and watering cans were distributed to each VMNPF owner on a cost-sharing basis.
Poultry vaccination campaigns were successfully completed.
Each VMNPF was developed as a sustainable micro-enterprise for income generation.
Vegetable seeds rich in micronutrients, fruit saplings, and NTFP seedlings were distributed to households through the VMNPFs.
