Disaster Risk Reduction in River Basin Project
Disaster Risk Reduction in River Basin Project was implemented along with Oxfam GB in 4 VDCs adjacent to the Kamala River in Sinduli district. The project was focused on improving resilience of the communities diversifying livelihood options, empowering community to cope with the disaster through DRR approaches.

| Achievements | Within a very short period, we were able to make some changes in livelihood of communities and influenced local government on DRR approach. Support to prepare and implement district advocacy plans. Support 50 bio gas plants to fuel wood contributing to reduce carbon dioxide and minimize greenhouse gases. 38 marginalized farmers were supported to construct disaster friendly low-cost latrines. Sensitized community members on GESI organizing workshops, Participants were supported with tools, equipment and fitting materials to prepare Tukimara (a locally made torch light), Farmers who had taken commercial vegetable farming trainings were supported with improved vegetable seeds and sprayers, Bio-briquette production started in RBP communities and 12 farmers supported for its marketing, Committee of trained farmers groups for Tapari making was supported with machine. Tandi irrigation scheme rehabilitated, Thirty vegetable producing farmers were trained who later started to earn from the sale of vegetables. Members of 16 CDMCs were trained on public health: water safely, hand washing and hygiene. Support local authorities to finalize/update DDRPs, Two days orientation on climate change provided to district stakeholders and partners, Early warning workshops between upstream and downstream communities was conducted in collaboration with Nepal Patrakar Mahasangh, Awareness raising messages on DRR, public health and sanitation broadcasted from Radio Sindhuli. |
