Seeds of Success
Ms. Amrita Sherpa is a permanent resident of Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi-13 Nunthala, Khotang. She has five family members: husband, 2 sons, a daughter, and herself. Her elder son is back from foreign employment in Malaysia. She got the opportunity to participate in a financial literacy and psychosocial counseling class of last fiscal year. She regularly participated in the 21-week long class and very much impressed. She discussed it with her family and decided to start a small business. She started commercial vegetable farming in their own land. She bought seeds of vegetables costing Rs. 600. In this first round, she made a net income of Rs 9,500 in three months. She was quite excited hence, cultivated cauliflower and cabbage in this winter season. These vegetables are in the harvesting stage. She estimates to earn around Rs. 50,000 selling these vegetables. Her financial literacy group is also registered at the local level as a farmer group. The local government has allocated Rs. 200,000 to support this group.
