Diarrhea Outbreak Response
Through its “Sahayogi Haathharu” campaign, Annapurna Post of the Asia Pacific Communication Association (APCA) supported the provision of ORS packets (6–7 sachets per household) to 50,781 HHs living in 10 VDCs of Jajarkot following the diarrhea outbreak in 2009.

| Achievements | Before distribution began, the DHO, District Water Supply and Sanitation Office (DWSSO), District Development Committee (DDC), VDCs and health posts were all well informed about the programme. Public participation was emphasized throughout the ORS distribution. Settlements within the wards of each VDC were finalized, and information on health, hygiene and sanitation was delivered alongside a demonstration on preparing ORS solution. As part of social mobilization, the entire district team was fully mobilized across the targeted VDCs and worked in close coordination with SHP/HP and other stakeholders to carry out the assigned tasks. Local Resource Persons trained under the UN-OCHA-supported WRP Project were also fully mobilized to support demonstrations and raise awareness. The team first conducted settlement-level orientation and awareness-raising activities, then distributed IEC materials such as brochures and calendars to each household in the VDCs. A total of 9,358 households (population: 50,781; male: 25,701; female: 25,080; under sixteen: 22,321) directly benefited. Local people gained both the ORS sachets and the skills needed to prepare them when required. |
