Sustainable Action for Resilience and Food Security (SABAL)

SABAL has addressed root causes of poverty including food insecurity and malnutrition, inability to absorb shocks from disaster or adapt to climate change impacts in close coordination with the Government of Nepal, Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, Ministry of Health and Population, Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration, other relevant line ministries, district-level line agencies, and local NGO partners. DEPROSC-Nepal has led the financial services component within the livelihood themes, focusing more on “Improved access to saving and other financial services”, “Increased adoption of Climate Smart Agricultural practices”, “Increased access of vulnerable HHs to safety-net facilities”, “Increased access to the project-promoted social safety nets”.

AchievementsIntegrated the Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA) program in Farmers Groups.
Designed course content, developed relevant training materials, and assisted local partners in delivering training related to VSLA, Capacity Building of Cooperatives, and linkage development with cooperatives and the Youth Self-Employment Fund.

Developed Training Manual for Farmers Business School (FBS). Trained LRPs, ATs, and Financial Services Officers and conducted FBS through LRPs, ATs, and FSOs. Provided technical backstop to local partners for this training.

Promoted micro health insurance and agriculture insurance services. Besides, they have followed their TOR and timelines accordingly. Provided Vocational Training (VT), Start and Improve Your Business (SIYB).
