Knowledge based Integrated Sustainable Agriculture and Nutrition (KISAN I)
The KISAN project, part of USAID’s global Feed the Future (FTF) initiative, was to reduce poverty and hunger in Nepal by achieving inclusive, sustainable growth in the agriculture sector, increasing the income of farm families and improving the participation of the private sector in promoting agricultural growth. The project activities were focused on strengthening the food security and nutrition status through increased agricultural production, productivity and income, especially in the food-deficient districts of Nepal.

| Achievements | The organization facilitated its beneficiaries to link and enroll into different microfinance institutions and SACCOS, where they could get different microfinance products: savings, loans, remittance services and micro insurance. Cooperatives were assisted to prepare their business plans for expansion of services to KISAN farmers. Altogether, 50,568 (60%) beneficiaries were linked with the formal financial institutions like saving and credit cooperatives, Micro-finance Development Banks (MFDBs) / FINGOs to increase the access to financial services. The organization mobilized technical human resources to construct 1,190 irrigation schemes irrigating over 3,000 hectares of land reaching more than 18,698 households. |
