DRR and Humanitarian Assistance

DEPROSC-Nepal has accomplished several projects in disaster risk reduction and humanitarian assistance during flood, earthquake, epidemic, drought, conflict and emergencies. It has experience of working in pre, during and post disaster cycle. Following international good practices, it has developed and adopted a “Contingency plan” for disaster management and has prepared in responding to emergency situations in food security, WASH, logistics and shelter themes in different levels of disasters. It is a member of DPNet, food security and WASH clusters at the central level. It has remained a strategic partner for Emergency Food Security and Vulnerable Livelihood (EFSVL) of Oxfam since 2013. In 2023, it has also become a Strategic Partner for Disaster to Plan Nepal. It has also entered into an international network called Network for Empowered Aid Response (NEAR) which is advocating for locally driven humanitarian system.

The organization has served during insurgency to restore basic educational and health services, worked in Koshi flood providing humanitarian assistance, supported diarrhea affected communities in Jajarkot in 2009 and served earthquake affected communities of Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur and Nuwakot districts. It has supported 172,030 food insecure families (830,786 population) with food for work and food for training mobilizing 34,026 metric tons of food. The organization has also experience of implementing cash transfer programming in different disasters. DEPROSC-Nepal has always been in forefront to implement emergency relief and response, recovery, reconstruction and rehabilitation, as well as sustainable livelihood projects for those people vulnerable from disaster. It has completed 9 projects benefitting 66,182 households under the theme.
