Vacancy Announcement

DEPROSC-Nepal is a non-profit making, non-governmental organization (NGO) working in thematic areas such as food security, microfinance, natural resource management, community assets, social development and DRR. At present, it has been active in 33 different districts in Terai, hills and mountains for said missions.  Oxfam and DEPROSC-Nepal has entered into a Long Term Standby Partnership to work jointly for humanitarian capacity building for better and effective preparedness since 2013.


Since June 2015 in partnership of Oxfam, DEPROSC had successfully completed the first phase of emergency response under EFSVL in Kathmandu and Lalitpur district and contributed to revive the livelihoods of earthquake affected about 5783HHs in first year and 4200 HHs in the second year. During the period of emergency response, the critical and immediate needs of affected communities especially related to food and livelihood were addressed by implementing various EFSVL interventions however; strategic needs are found to be more concentrated and need to be addressed accordingly. Currently we are implementing EFSVL and SHELTER activities in 1 municipality of Kathmandu and 1 municipality and 3 VDCs of Lalitpur districts in recovery and reconstruction phase which will be completed 31st March, 2018. Most activities during relief and early recovery phase are targeted to poor and ultra poor household of the peri urban and rural areas. 


Post Title: Overseer/Sub engineer (1)

Term and location: till March 2018 based in Kathmandu (Though it is Kathmandu based position it mostly requires travelling in working VDCs and municipalities within valley. This is not an office based position)

Qualifications and professional experience required:

  • Diploma in Civil Engineering
  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant professional experience
  • Most importantly, practical experience in earthquake resistant building construction. It is desirable that some of this should have been in emergency relief programmes.


  • Sound experience in site supervision in medium-scale infrastructure works, preferably building construction.
  • Good knowledge of building and civil technical engineering national standards and common practices in Nepal
  • Ability to build strong, credible relationships with beneficiary groups, local authorities and communities


  • Support Engineer for the implementation shelter activities of Nepal Earthquake Recovery and Reconstruction in the assigned municipality,
  • Work in mobile team in giving door-to-door technical assistance to earthquake affected community people,
  • Support in getting real database of households using online and manual system,
  • Monitor households receiving government grant for shelter and provide technical support wherever necessary,
  •  Ensure effective coordination with local authorities, NRA engineers and take proactive role in working with reconstruction or other community based organizations and committees
  •  Conduct regular monitoring of activities at field,
  • Regularly report to the technical team/office about the activities conducted in your municipality,
  • Follow-up and the proper use of materials, tools and assets during the activities implementation;
  • Assist the team in getting necessary information from the municipality in regular basis,
  • Support to organize community sessions about earthquake resistance building construction practices and mason training
  • Work as a bridge between the municipality and DEPROSC head office,
  • Travel to all the wards of the municipality as required,
  • Perform all other tasks as assigned by your Supervisor.
  • Report immediately any delay, problem or other relevant information to the Engineer/Project Manager
